What do you believe?

Posted by JID on Dec. 23, 2011, 10:25 p.m.

with Christmas coming up, it'd be cool to talk about things considering religion and your position on all that. i've always been kind of interested in what people believe, because sometimes, they say some pretty interesting and deep things that make you think.

when answering, think of some of these questions to get you started:

do you believe in god or some form of deity and do you believe they exist? why or why not.

how do you believe mankind originated?

do you believe we will ever find out how and where mankind originated with undeniable or at least somewhat creditible evidence?

what do you think of all these other planets, solar systems, galaxies, etc. and do you believe we will ever find life out there?

i am very interested in knowing what you guys think.

now, hopefully, no one will make this get out of hand, but just in case, don't post anything that is purposely offensive to others. try to keep it reasonable and please, try to keep an open mind about this.

edit: i don't think I've mentioned my religion and all that stuff i believe in.

i am christian, so yeah, i believe in god. :p

but i'm not the type of christian who forces their beliefs all over you, and judge and insult you and you're religion, if you don't believe what i do.

in all honesty, most religions aren't very different from each other, they usually tend to have the same morals and values.

i don't understand how people can judge others as if they're satan's descendant, simply because they are a different religion. unless you're a satanist. then you might literally be satan's descendant.

I was raised as a Christian with some of my family members being very religious.

I am currently agnostic, I guess. I believe that there may or may not be a God and that no one knows whether there is or isn't for 100% certainty, because no one can be 100% certain about anything. You can believe in something without being certain, and I just choose to stay neutral (though, to be honest, I do still retain a bit of hope that there may very well be a God, as it can be comforting at times to (from what I have learned from my religion) think that there is a higher power out there that cares for you, loves you and will help you through whatever life throws at you, regardless of whether you realize it or not.)

Pfft, I wish it was a picture of me.

It would mean that I've been to a real party this year.

1) I believe in some form of a created universe. I find the Simulation Argument as a logical reason for believing it so. Whether or not the higher being is post-human or entirely alien, is benevolent or actively interested in us is up in the air.

2) I am unsure

3) Maybe, maybe not

4) If the simulation argument holds true, then there already is life one level above us, but in terms of in-this-universe, I highly doubt we'd be able to find a living culture, let alone one that we could have real-time contact with, barring some fantastic scientific advances.

what if every other planet once contained great civilizations, and when they reached the pinnacle of technology or knowledge, or something, they were completely wiped out, bulletstorm style and a new civilization was started on a new planet, like on earth or something, for example.

and this process is going to continue on and on, forever and ever.
