New computer

No, I didn't get a new one. I'm getting a new one for Christmas, a laptop. I'm going to use it for school but I would also like to be able to play future games on it. Since I don't know a whole alot about computer specs I thought someone could help me here.

I made a computer on the Dell site(my parents want me to get a dell), and heres the specs:

Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T5500 (1.66GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 667MHz FSB)

XP Media 2005 with Vista upgrade

1GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz, 2 Dimm

80GB hard drive(don't need much more)

256MB ATI MOBILITY™ RADEON® X1400 HyperMemory™

With all this it comes to $987, I had to be under $1,000.

Will this system last a few years or more? I'm pretty sure my next computer I'm going to have to buy so I'd like this one to last for a while [:P]

Other stuff

For some reason I got reminded of an old computer game I had with the first computer I had way back in 1998. It was called Carnivores, you killed dinosaurs for sport. After waiting for hours(the download speed was at 6kbs and it was 80mb) I finally played it. I got eaten by a Velociraptor [:(]

Well, your computer isn't going to run future games (or even a large number of current ones) that well with your low-speed processor.

Ugh…what do you recommend FB?

^^AMD. anything at all will be good as long as its a 3500+ or higher

Man, lower end desktops have a better processor then a high end laptop[:(]

Is it even worth getting a laptop? Sure the mobility is nice but you can't do much with it.

Its worth it if you can pay good money for a proscessor

And it looks like I can't with $1,000…

Hmm… I should check. As I recall I saw some pretty damn good laptops for under $750
