New computer

No, I didn't get a new one. I'm getting a new one for Christmas, a laptop. I'm going to use it for school but I would also like to be able to play future games on it. Since I don't know a whole alot about computer specs I thought someone could help me here.

I made a computer on the Dell site(my parents want me to get a dell), and heres the specs:

Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T5500 (1.66GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 667MHz FSB)

XP Media 2005 with Vista upgrade

1GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz, 2 Dimm

80GB hard drive(don't need much more)

256MB ATI MOBILITY™ RADEON® X1400 HyperMemory™

With all this it comes to $987, I had to be under $1,000.

Will this system last a few years or more? I'm pretty sure my next computer I'm going to have to buy so I'd like this one to last for a while [:P]

Other stuff

For some reason I got reminded of an old computer game I had with the first computer I had way back in 1998. It was called Carnivores, you killed dinosaurs for sport. After waiting for hours(the download speed was at 6kbs and it was 80mb) I finally played it. I got eaten by a Velociraptor [:(]

Not really. Dual core is only good for two seperate tasks. For one task alone, it makes no difference

I looked at the AMD shopping thing and came up with these:

1

2

And this on tigerdirect:

FB, clock speed speed isn't everything. The Intel Core2Duo is the best type of processor out right now.

"For one task alone, it makes no difference"

Yeah. That can be a disadvantage sometimes.

Well, your computer isn't going to run future games (or even a large number of current ones) that well with your low-speed processor.

I'm lolling. The core 2 duo's are among the best CPUs you can buy right now. Though when you can only utilise one core then it may not be so good - though they're still damn fast processors even on one core.

As for the laptop it's self, it's pretty good but if you can - buy a propper computer. You will get a lot more for your money.

*cry* That laptop is better than my PC

Kaz 17 years, 12 months ago

Don't feel bad Arc, a 5 year old shit laptop is probably better than my pc. Then again my pc is 10 years old.

So you guys are saying that computer is decent? I haven't found anything better for anything less. The Gateway I posted has a better processor but its not duo. It also only has a 128mb video card.
