Dark Souls

Who here likes Dark Souls? I beat the game recently and I'd like to know who here has also played and/or beat it.

Anyway, Yeah. I bought the game for Xbox a few months ago, and I finally beat it about a month ago.

I also recently started a new game on PC. (Yeah, I bought it twice. lol) Technically I bought it 3 times since The first copy I gave to my little brother, and I had to buy a second Xbox one.

Then it went on sale on steam, and I had to have it for PC.

So, about the new game. I'm playing this new character a bit less leveled than my other one. As in, I'm not leveling him at all.

I'm trying to beat the game with a level 1 character. This is possible. Plenty of people have done it, and it is pretty fun to add a whole new level of difficulty to the game. If I recall correctly, Ferret is/ was doing the same thing, since he plays the game as well.

I've currently defeated:

The Taurus Demon

The Gargoyles

The Moonlight Butterfly

The Capra Demon

The Gaping Dragon

Quelaag

The Iron Golem

I've been using Reinforced Clubs for all of this, and a mix of the Pyromancer, Leather, and Hollow Warrior armors as well.

This is pretty fun. But man, dodging is important when you have so little armor and defense.

I'm currently trying to fight Ornstein and Smough. They are much, much harder than they were the first time. And they were VERY hard the first time.

I'd love to hear your Dark Souls Stories!

I just went and bought one of those curse-removing items from that store keeper that costs like 16000 souls I think. Wayyy overpriced for such a commonly afflicted ailment.

Meh, if you're careful/ know how to avoid it, it's not that bad. I've only been cursed once. Also, if you need any tips/ advice, I'll be happy to answer any questions in the most spoiler free way I can.

Also, I noticed you mentioned using the Drake Sword. I'd advise against it. It's' good in the beginning, but you outgrow it really fast. You're probably already past the point where it stops being useful.

EDIT: Ornstein and Smough are really frustrating me. :(

I've failed like 13 times already. I can't make a single mistake. Super Smough kills me with a single hit. :/

I've gotten close though. That's the most frustrating of all.

The Drake sword has actually been really useful for quite some time now. I was able to get it to +1 after I got a dragon scale from the Undead Dragon. It's also one of the most powerful weapons that I have which I can currently get any use out of. I still need to get my strength up.

LAR Games 11 years ago

Well, if you're leveling, The sword is quickly outclassed by any +5 weapon. And weapons go up to +15.

Also, if you're using the drake sword. Strength means nothing. Stats don't count when you use it.

I bought it recently, I can't get past the first non boss enemies. they have so much health. I know this game is supposed to be difficult, but I must be doing something wrong. Am I supposed to run away, because the level design seems to suggest that I am meant to fight. Am I supposed to get another weapon or something? so far the only way I have managed to do much damage is by luring them up the stairs, then knocking them off for fall damage.

Are you fighting skeletons? Cause if you are, stay away, very, very far away until later on.

Also @LAR: I know strength doesn't count with the Drake, which is why I'm using it. I mean I need to get my strength up to use a better sword I've had for quite some time now. I can't even dual-hand it yet. All of my other weapons are far weaker than the Drake so far.

@Moikel

If you're in the graveyard, that's the wrong way. From the first bonfire in Lordran, go in the direction of the well with the first loot you see in Lordran. There's a staircase. That's the right way.

@Eva

Which sword are you aiming towards?

Eva unit-01 11 years ago

I think is the black knight sword or something, but as I'm not even able to hold it yet, and I've been splitting my souls between strength and other things, it's been a bit harder to get those levels needed for strength. I need like 6 more points or something.

Yeah. I wouldn't use any Black Knight stuff. It kind of spoils you. In the end though, I've noticed all the weapons I've fully upgraded (Black Knight Stuff Included) end up doing pretty similar damage.

You can only upgrade Back knight stuff 5 times. You also can't coat them in any sort of resin/ ascend them, if I recall correctly.

You also need Twinkling Titanite to upgrade Black Knight stuff.

In all, I think you're better off upgrading/ using a weapon that you like the moveset of, and level according to that.

Tried to make a video of how I usually die, but I didn't even get THAT far:
