So I finally started installing Minecraft server on my VPS. Or, more like trying to install it. I wanted to do this for over a month now, but I always was afraid I would destroy my server somehow, because I normally don't think it's a good idea to follow a tutorial while still having no idea what you are doing exactly, and while logged in as Root. Still, I *think* I managed to install Java now (after carefully reading some tutorials for at least an hour, that is). Too bad I can't get Java to actually start, otherwise I could even try and install Minecraft.
First of all, I was unable to create a link to Java in /usr/bin, which is inconvenient, but it would still be possible to use Java without the link. What is even more inconvenient, is that Java can't start because it "Could not reserve enough space for object heap".Damn it feels good to be a noob.
If you're afraid of being root in a machine, you shouldn't be doing it on the first place.
@Josea: True, but since there was a backup of the full system, I figured I could just give it a try.
@Mega: Technically, I'm not running the system myself. Also, I'm not particularly afraid to access Root, I'm just afraid to screw something up while having full privileges.Hmm, although I share the VPS with a friend of mine (who is also paying for it), I can't really call it a 'critical system' yet. Still, I'm a bit over-careful regarding stuff like this.
What have I possibly done to you to deserve griefing?
