Yes, thats' right. Games are evil today.
Today you look at any game on Xbox360 or PC or whatever, and you fall in love with it right-a-way. No, it's not love, it's lust. Game Designers focus on nothing but graphics these days. People go wow that's awesome, buy it, play it until they're bored of the graphics, then it's never seen again. That's lust. What about the love of Classic Gaming? Where'd Lemmings go? Where'd friggin Cruise for a Corpse or all those old Simpsons Games or Willy Beamish go? Those were the games that you'd buy, and play until you've finished the game over and over. They didn't focus on good sound or amazing 2D-pixelated-graphics, they focused on gameplay. I'm pissed off with commercial games these days. I still get tempted to buy one because it's lust, temptation… But I don't, because 90% of those games are just eye-candy.
I agree. In many reviews my like X360 games, I've seen the reviewers mention how it's nothing new, but just nicer graphics, etc. There are a few good "next-gen" games out there though, like PDZ (I've heard the original N64 was better though, in reviews) and Oblivion.
Good point! Very very good point. The only thing we can do is not buy games that create "lust".
Oblivion? Amazing graphics, but it still has good game play. Same goes with Half Life 2. Then there are games like CS where you just play online and have fun. I think there are still good games. You only say that because now that the games have aged, you can tell the good from the bad because they have a legacy. New games on the otherhand you have to sort through to find the good ones. I hate to break it to you, but if lived by when classic games were being released (you did not since you are only 14, which leads me to ask why you are even making this) it would be just as hard to find good games.
Yeah. I'm 14? So? We had a Sega Genesis and really old computer that barely took Windows 3.1 (30mb hard-drive) until I was 7, and I can remember quite clearly the games we played. I remember those old games, we used to buy them at garage sales since our consoles and PCs were old; And I tried some of them out the other day and I can see the difference. Plus, I've got brothers that went right through the commodore 64 and compy times; And they say the same thing. It's a lot harder to get a game that's got awesome gameplay. Oblivion has good gameplay, I'm quite happy with buying that, And all my respect goes to Bethesda. But other companies? EA Games? Activion? They're the sux.
-RhysI have to agree with biggmax on this one as much as it pains me to do so…
When it comes down to it… the "big boys" are in it for nothing but that phat perverbial cash! And righfully so too, why else would they dump millions upon millions of dollars a year to develop these games if they weren't going to see significant returns in revenu?Indie games, and professionally developed games are two different breeds. You obviously have the heart of an indie developer, and I respect that… Afterall, don't most of us who develop our own =DI couldn't agree more but hey, at lest we still have GM.
I've been around for the entire gaming epic, and all of the most classic games (well, for me it started with an old dos game called "Gorrila Ballz" where you matched up little blocks that flew at you….)
Anyway, Classic games will always be classics. People are still playing one of the first computer games there ever was, Pong. Think about that… it's not as if the idea of simple and entertaining gameplay is completely forgotten.I agree completely that the gaming industry is turnign toward graphics and that is a problem (highlighted mostly by the fact that all three of the supposive "next-gen" systems run on a processing type that favors graphics processing over quick intelligence processing. Some games focus on graphics AND quality:-Ikaruga (very graphics initiated, but amazing gameplay)-Oni [PC] (graphics were anime-cel shaded, but gameplay was great and innovative)-Half-Life 2 (great graphics and physics-reliant, but amazing innovation and fun)Upcoming games:-Command & Conquer 3: Tiberian Wars (guaranteed awesome, or true fans will riot)-Crysis (ok, it'll probably have some major problems, but it represents a great leap)-Hellgate: London (the gameplay previews of this look fantastic)-Prey (true innovation…. gravity-bending and 3D environment portals [look it up])-Maelstrom (dynamic storylines aren't dead yet)-Supreme Commander (amazing gameplay guaranteed, plus incredible unit control)-Enemy Territory: Quake Wars (Ok, Quake 4 was a [fun] letdown, but Quake Wars is set to have alot of new innovative features for multiplayer combat)So don't think the future is too glum. Consoles are lost to true games… let the noobs have their consoles. Who gives a damn about those morons.I am so psyced for twilight princess
"For me, the only good 360 game is Oblivion"
lol the only good game is also for pc. And at the cost of a 360 you could upgrade your computer to play oblivion, if it couldnt already.
