Holy Sheet, PCSX2 0.9.8 is out! :D

Dunno if any of you guys are big into emulation, except for hel.

But I just noticed that a new version of PCSX2 got released a few days ago. Supposedly it boasts noticeable speed gains, in addition to better game compatibility, among other things.

Imma boot into Windows to put it through its paces. My hardware's strong enough to where performance was never too big of an issue with the old version, but some games did experience some hang ups. I'm more excited about compatibility improvements. Maybe it'll be able to start up my copy of SOCOM? I'll find out shortly, I suppose. lol

Hey, you know much about this? I've installed PCSX2 on my PC, got all the plugins working and such.

But it won't play PS1 games. ;_;

(I got Need For Speed Pro Street working just fine - Bit 'o lag, but nothing I would care about)

I can play PS2 games, but for the life of me I just don't have any that I really want to play - The only game I have is Gran Turismo 1 - that was for Playstation 1, and I really want to play it.

Well, it's a PS2 emulator, so it only plays PS2 games. I know the PS2 has backwards compatibility, but it does it through additional PS1 hardware which the PS2 emulator doesn't bother to emulate.

What you need is ePSXe. It's my personal favorite PS1 emulator out of the several I've used. I know it can play Gran Turismo 1 and Gran Turismo 2 from having done it myself. And it can play just about any other PS1 game you can think of… it's never not worked on any game I've tried.

Any good tuts on how to run it on a 64-bit Win7 that has a DVD rom drive?

And yeah, thanks for posting the reason why PCSX won't run PS1 discs, lol, how silly was I thinking that it would.

It's a little old, but this should do the trick:

I've never had any trouble getting ePSXe to work on 64-bit Win 7, but a couple people I know weren't able to get anything other than a cryptic error message on their 64-bit Win 7 computers. If you do get a cryptic message, try an older version of ePSXe.

If anyone can recommend any PS2 games I might be missing out on, then I'll go grab it.

So far, I've heard Kingdom Hearts 2, a Final Fantasy game or so, and that's pretty much it.

I'll mess around with my settings and shiz when I get back home =D

Persona 3 and 4, Gran Turismo 3 and 4, Silent Hill 2-4, Odin Sphere, Shadow of the Colossus, Okami, Zone of the Enders, to name a few.

Okami? Sounds like something my brother's girlfriend would play. I'll give the games a look.

Didn't get to play with PCSX2 as much as I wanted to last night, on account of my need for sleep. I was getting 60 FPS in Suikoden 3 running at 1680x1050 internally, though I don't know how that compares to the old version of PCSX2, as I haven't tried Suikoden with it.

Later today I'll try GT4 and see if I can get smooth framerates with more than just my car on the track, lol. With the old version, it would run between 50 to 60 fps if you were the only car, but drop significantly any other vehicles were in view.
