Noobs Waif YoYoGames

Now I know this might not be breaking news for most people, but YoYoGames is suffering from noob-syndrome. This most commonly happens when a popular program becomes widely available and marketed for everyone. Then users create games which in every way is fine and then upload their poorly made game to a hosting site. In this case the hosting site is YoYoGames. In most cases this is not a problem, the poorly made games are down rated and never seen again.

But the massive numbers of poor games and poor users on YoYoGames brings the site to its knees. There are three reasons this site suffers significantly.

One) Because so many games are submitted at the same time, the excellent games are quickly covered and sent to the next page by poor games.

Two) Because YoYoGames puts any game rated 6/6 in their Most Popular section, often poorly made games are rated highly by multiple accounts are seen in the Most Popular section.

Three) If a poorly made game happens to be rated highly, the creator often downrates other peoples games in the hope that his game will maintain a higher rating in comparison with all the other games.

I recently released another version of Edelsteine on several sites, including YoYoGames. At first it was instantly smothered by poor games and was impossible to find. My brother then rated the game 6/6. I was then happy because other people would find it and rate it also. Unfortunately my game was a victim of noob-syndrome.

As you can see, my game has two votes, yet has been played only once. My brother rated my game a 6/6. Apparently, another user rated the game 0/6 and made the overall rating 3.5/6. This is sad because he rated my game 0/6 and did not even play it.

Yeah, I had a similar problem with my Comp02 entry, Nebraska Newton. It was rated four times (2.2 overall, one of the ratings was a 6, oddly enough) before being played even once.

My answer: put your games on the site, and then just go away and forget about that noob-infested rathole.

There is a way to solve the problem of "n00bs" etc.

Its called moderation. Damn you YoYo, you piece of shit!

Another proof that Yoyogames is full of noobs:

Oi, that was me who rated without playing. I didn't think it would be possible to give 0 stars.

I'll be blunt: games with 6 stars are heavily influenced too because they're just voted by friends/family. That's stupid too. If you want them to vote 6 stars then you should at least wait a few votes so it doesn't strike.

I find relatives rating 6 just as bad as rating 0 without playing. Well, no, maybe not as bad, but not good either.

Not meaning to say your game is bad btw, haven't played it ;p

Protip: Don't release a game on YYG and expect it to be rated well.
I'd rephrase that to: Protip: Don't release a game on YYG.

Maybe if decent gamemakers boycot YYG for a while it will get through their thick skulls that a system-overhaul is required.

A few examples:

Actually respond to reports on members by monitoring their behavior and taking appropriate action. If a user is constantly giving 0/6 or 6/6 to many games, they should be warned and consequently banned when this behavior continues. On the other hand, mindless reporting should be treated with equal vigilance.

An alternative might be to simply limit the amount of votes you can make on games to say three a day.

It would also be great if they could somehow reconstruct the site that you cannot vote for a game you haven't played.

Furthermore, a short screening process should be enforced that all submitted games need to be checked. No more WIPs or Betas, only finished games. This should include a 10 day disclaimer, with the explicit mentioning that adding good screenshots and game descriptions expedites the screening process.

Naturally, none of these points will ever be slightly be implemented, but if YYG should ever be noob-retardent in any way, they will need to perform actions that make this unwanted behavior difficult and/or risky.

Just like in real life.

…Why the fuck is the rating system from 0-6?

6/2 = 3.5
