Death of a Dictator

Yes, as some of you know, Saddam Hussein was executed just over an hour ago by hanging, putting an end to the life of a man who was nothing short of a criminal. Want I want to know is, what do you, fellow 64D'ers, think about this? Do you agreed with the decision to execute him so soon?

I want to make it painfully clear that if I even begin to think that this is causing a flame war, I will immediately destroy this blog. I just want your opinions of this event, not about want someone else said.

I personally believe it was for the best. Aside from his outbursts in court and blatant disregard for the judicial system, he was a criminal. No, less than that. He wasn't even fit to be human.

That's all.

Actually, there was a lawsuit on lethal injection. Apparently, the mixture the US justice system uses is painful. They just couldnt prove it for obvious reasons.

I elect JakeX to clear up the uncertainty.

Unfortunatly, hanging Saddam won't fix a damn thing. Those insurgents who still support Saddam will only get angrier, and the insurgents who didn't support Saddam won't care. Whether Saddam deserved it or not, his death isn't helping Iraq.
Well, think about this, why were the insurgents rebelling? They wanted Saddam back in power. He's dead. So, yes, they'll have many attacks for a short time, but afterwards, there will be very few, as many will be discouraged by his death since he can't be put back into power by any methods they try.

I think it is an Iraqi punishment. If you steal, they cut your hand off.

Saddam may be thought of as a martyr by the insurgents. He did stand up to American power, and after being executed in a trial that many Iraqis considered to be run by Washington, Saddam may become a powerful symbol to people who want us out.

I don't agree with the idea of killing him at all!

"also, the death penalty in the US is too light, injection, quick death, bam, no pain "

why the fuck do you want someone alive.. it cost money keep them alive. r u gonna pay for it just to keep your sick emotions of retribution intact? but the cool thing about that statement is that it seems you don't believe in the afterlife. :D

he will be missed in the world….

I believe killing someone because they killed someone else, is hypocrisy. The Government is saying "Ok - Killing people is wrong. You killed people. So we're going to kill you.. because killing is wrong".

I've gone into discussion with too many people about this now - and they all go into the complex things that end up being a matter of opinion. But for me, it's the basic concept that should prove the point…. the government is a hypocrite. Hypocrisy is just as bad a sin as any. The government could easily have decided to chuck him in a cell for the rest of his life. It would've been a much better conclusion than to kill him, and Saddam couldn't have done anything more. To put it simply, there's no advantage of killing Saddam over chucking him in a cell - so why didn't they do that? Saddam had one life, just like everyone. And even though he took away peoples lives, what is adding another to the toll going to do?

The thing is, Saddam didn't have a life, which is why he was sent to Hell.

I found a full video of his execution, so if anyone wants to see it, go to Google Video, search "saddam hanging" and choose the first result. (viewer descretion, however. Do not go if you can't handle seeing a human being killed on-screen)
