You should aim to submit your entire game by this time. The competition is now underway! You can now start making your game.Entering is officially closed, but if you're an active 64digits member or if you have a really good excuse for why you didn't enter earlier, feel free to try and convince me. =)AND REMEMBER, you must submit your final game before Sunday the 30th of October 2011, 0:00am GMT, give or take a few hours for those confused by timezones and for other unfortunate souls. On your marks!GOGOGO

1. The aim of the competition is to develop entirely your own game within the time limit (7th Oct - 30th Oct). You will have to keep up to date with my blog posts to find out how and when to submit your final game.2. You MUST have stated you are going to enter before the 7th of October 2011 (read further down for details).3. You MUST submit your final game before the 30th of October 2011 (further details to come).4. You MUST NOT include anything in the game that you don't have full permission to use.5. You must not include anything in the game which has been in a game you have already released on the Internet - within reason and common sense. This rule is only valid until the 31st of October 2011 (0:00 GMT) - you can then share your final game entry elsewhere and do whatever you want with it.N.B. You shouldn't release your final game before the 31st Oct because of this rule.N.B. You can still post screenshots and videos anywhere you like - just not the game. If you want to send demos to each other, do it privately!6. Your final game MUST have Halloween/horror/terror themed elements or references.7. There are no programming language/game engine restrictions except that the game MUST run on Windows 7.8. Don't be a cheater.9. ONE entry per person.10. You MUST be at least 15 years old to take part… the competition entries are likely to involve mature content.11. I reserve the right to update or otherwise change the rules and to disqualify any entrant who breaks the rules.
OK, for those expecting to win $1000 - which toads are you licking? I'm not trying to sell you anything. I gain nothing if you take part (in fact, keep reading, I lose a buck). I won't own anything you make, it's yours. HUNDREDS of people take part in the most famous game comp, Ludum Dare - they don't offer anything at all except the fun of taking part. If you want prizes, give as you wish to receive. If you're in it for the money, you don't deserve anything anyway.

DO YOU LUDUM-DARE** COMPETE?*A 'successful entrant' is defined as an entrant who submits a legitimate game within the time limit, gets at least one vote in the preliminary judging and is someone who I determine has actually bothered to make a decent game.** :3

TRICK-OR-TREAT (EVERYONE)Trick-or-treating is a tradition which promotes greediness, hostility and obese children. To protest and as a companion to the prizes above, for every successful entrant* I will donate

Count me in as well.
…what Cesque said@Alert I'm mixed on the idea of announcing a comp any later than I did. The two conflicting arguments are that announcing late means less cheating, but announcing early means you give people time to actually see the thing.
I think it may be conditional - because this is a completely new competition with a completely unknown time frame so people won't be expecting to join before the announcement. Once it begins to build up a reputation it can be announced later, ie, if there's a next year. I also wasn't sure how slow the "trickle" of people entering would be - whether everyone will have joined in the first couple of days or if there would be one or two people joining every day until the start. Fortunately it seems to be fairly exponential.Concerning the rules… as a general guide, I don't know what's wrong with them until someone tells me. The old competition rules do not apply for two reasons - A, there are participants who haven't been existing members of 64d and Iknewhoped that would be the case, and B, there is money involved, however small. Therefore the rules have to be put in place in an attempt to stop "greifing", illegitimate attempts at getting the prizes and (here's one I won't have mentioned) cheating on the votes/judging.If there was nothing at stake here, I'd be the first to suggest no rules at all, believe me, they're very off-putting and feel intimidating and self-righteous. Most other competitions have no rules in practice anyway because half of them aren't enforceable and the other half are trivial (eg, must run on Windows).I want to join. :D
graa, I have plenty of ideas for game mechanics, just none for the story/enemies.
I'm in. ಠ_ಠ Also, I'm willing to donate towards the prize fund. Can you e-mail me, Rez?
Who are all these new people crawling out of the woodwork?
It's like the new comp has opened some gate and now
someone should totally make their game about thisdemons from hellnew people are flooding into 64digits D:@badpilcrow I'm guessing you were confused by the way I credited his name as 2010 host? I would be the 2011 host, if that's what you're looking for.
Edit: I fixed it so it is less confusing, sorry about that.@Toast, ah, yes… :-) Just let me know what would be the best way to donate. I'm trying to get my students involved in this competition, so I figure a bit of "Win Prof. Sushil's Money" wouldn't hurt.
Haha that sounds brilliant. And no problem! I've sent you a message, just check your "Inbox" at the top of this page.
