Seeing as new members are consistently posting short blogs in the RA along the lines of "I am making an RPG like somethingorother kthxbai", I've decided to satisfy their urges here. To clarify, blogs in the RA (the Recent Activity Feed, in the right sidebar) must be longer than a few sentences, unless you're posting some other media (pictures/music/videos/games). You are also not allowed to blog in the RA more than once every 24 hours. You can talk about initial ideas or progress here, unless you have enough to talk about to make your own blog. You are not required to post your progress, this is simply to keep the RA free of pointless blogs. As RPG4D entry is nearly closed and the page has a bazillion comments (over 1000?), we'll also phase out the original page and use this page for any further discussion of the competition, until I open submission at the start of July.
I have a feeling of "WTF?" right now just looking at that screen shot.
I'd have liked to enter with a 3D dungeon crawler with the appearance of a Nintendo DS game, but
1) Game Maker can't do proper 3D animation or collision detection.2) I don't know enough Unity to pull this off, and I'd probably opt to use higher-res models and textures if I were using it.3) Because fuck school for keeping me busy.4) I wouldn't have any time to play TERA. I only have a few hours each weekend day for that.If this comes along next year, I may consider entering.Sheppard, that red is horrible on the eyes. There isn't really even much texture to the carpeting and upholstery either. Consider adding more shading too, it looks like everything is straight out of MSpaint.Yaru, your screenshot looks excellent. Though I might suggest a less drab background color. Or maybe a background of some other sort.Tubey's and my game's story involves paradoxical time travel.
Prepare to be confused.My progress:
I got back into Minecraft… been whoring it for the past 3 days.
When forcing myself to not play Minecraft I've been working on my battle engine. Done the battle sprites for the two characters I have so far, along with some programming on the actual battle engine. The battle engine is entirely turn based, player 1 -> player 2 -> player 3 -> enemy 1 -> enemy 2 - > enemy 3. Etc.Not sure wherever I should make the turn order depend on a speed stat or just keep it as it is now. If I keep it as it is, I can easily implement battle advantages/disadvantages, like back / preemptive strikes.I also added some sounds and a battle theme - probably not permanent ones though. I'm using music I found from the internet but the license says I can use it - is that allowed in the competition? Else I'm screwed because I can't compose :PI'll release a demo once I have the battle engine finished and some rooms to run around in.Roll for initiative.
