Ludum Dare 24

Posted by Toast on Aug. 21, 2012, 7:11 p.m.

Everybody knows how much I love harping on about competitions…

… so it seems only right that I mention that the biggest 48hr/72hr game jam on the internet is starting on Friday/Saturday.

I personally will be taking part again and I was curious if anybody else was going to.

This time I think I'll be tackling the more leniant 72hr game jam, rather than the 48hr competition, because I have to go on a somewhat inconvienient ferry trip on the Sunday. It also means I can work in a team, so if anybody wants to, let me know.

There's also a rather interesting $1,250 competition hosted on a different site* which is running alongside 'Dare. Although it appears you'll have to get a US citizen to enter for you.

So yes. Discuss, don't discuss, or if your name is colseed, +1 everything you see.

TeamSpeak JOIN

Also, I'm getting confused by the concepts introduced by this…

Should I enter the jam or the competition?

or both?

The 48hour competition is naturally more competitive, while the 72hour jam has basically no rules and is more laid back.

By the way I'm gonna work solo, so that if I finish in 48 hours I can enter the compo, but have the option of entering the jam if I run out of time. But thanks for the offer of composing. I'm gonna attempt to do some blips and bloops on LSDJ sometime tommorow.

Actually while we're on the subject this is what I'm using (as posted on Ludum Dare):

Code - Flash Develop, Flashpunk

Level Design - OGMO Editor

Art - Paint, GraphicsGale

Sound - LSDJ, SFXR

Other - Ground coffee, narcotics

Game Maker is a good choice for the kind of rapid prototyping that LD involves, but I think Flash games get more plays and are more versatile.

Also, if you don't already know, SFXR is the go-to program for quick, cheap and dirty sound effects.

I was considering the same thing, but then I decided I'll probably get more done listening to fast-paced music than gabbing it up on TS.

Yeah! I got the same idea right after I posted it.

What's the point of having over 150 hours of music if you never listen to it while doing intense programming and design?

Anyone else making a timelapse? I never did such a thing before. I'm going with this program. Hopefully it doesn't fuck up.

Guise holy shit, five minutes.

I got coffee, and iced tea, and nicotine patches, and music, and food.

I'm probably going to die.
