Currently I'm working on a game for the RPG competition. Working title; "Greatwall Emblem". It's a Tactics RPG game with Disgaea-style gameplay and Final Fantasy Tactics graphical style, and put short it looks like this:
There's a bunch of classes done already, levelling (also, enemies can level up if they kill your characters!) and a very versatile map maker I'll use to make the battlefields. There's some issues left to fix (tile overlap, but I have a plan about how to fix it) and gridcharacters (static background object) and invalid panels (e.g. water) aren't taken into account by the main game controller yet… but that's two minor things I'll be able to fix pretty easily once I get some more time on my hands.Anyway, the current game cast is the female protagonist, mikos (shinto shrine maids), bats, penguin cops, witches, and… average teenagers. Go ahead and try the tech demo if you'd like to see how the game feels this far.Controls: Z, X, R-Shift, Enter. To actually do something, first tell the unit to do something and then open up the Main Menu with Enter and select Perform. You can enqueue lots of actions and then do them all at once, to for instance let four guys maul an enemy to death before it gets a chance to counterattack.Download link: https://www.box.com/s/9de596222a721bec92a6By the way: No ads and 5GB storage for free. I can recommend everyone to use Box.
Thanks! ^__^
Yeah, I've given schoolwork too little attention and my game too much attention lately, I'm afraid. But since it's getting close to exam time it's more about grinding old exams and less about learning new stuff. And the screenshot is a week old or so, I forgot to copy some new ones to my USB before going to school today (I have no internet access at home)Awesome, Fire Emblem style, I like it.
Nice demo you've got there.
The controls were a bit too quick for me, like on the menus: if I wasn't careful the arrow would go scrolling up/down further than intended.Overall it looks nice but the music bleeds my ears. x.xThanks! ^__^
I've spent yesterday evening coding in a "SPEEDFACTOR" pseudoconstant to speed up every single animation except throwing, so that'll be fixed for the next release/port/demo.What part of the music is bloody? I'm gonna make an immense soundtrack with lots of tunes, so I'm gonna use MIDIs for the default option (and then I can make MP3WAVs for a Special Download For People That Aren't Accustomized To Game Maker Games That Average On 10MB that's possible to download)… or is it just that the compositions are too repetitive?I believe what he's getting at is the music in that demo was incredibly annoying. Sorry.
Putting the word "Emblem" in the title of a strategy RPG doesn't really seem like a good idea. But I'm loving how this game looks so far as a Fire Emblem, Disgaea, and general SRPG fan.
Yeah, trying to mimic the titling sensibilities of JRPGs is pretentious anyway. I advise just call it something straightforward, in plain English.
Some good stuff coming from this competition.
that's looking really cool. just need to make the scene a bit larger so you don't see the gray.
