The GMC has been blocked on my school filter. Does anyone know how to set up a proxy? I have really good hosting, so I think I can do it. (But correct me if I'm wrong, as I know nothing about proxies.)
I bet that if I require a login, disguise it as a teacher's portal, then encrypt the connection before actually connecting to the proxy, I could keep the IT people from figuring out what it is. (They sit and manually go through the school server logs, so they can see what websites are visited and catgorize them in the filter.) It's only a matter of time before I lose 64 too!Can anyone help me?

Is that really such a bad thing? I haven't been to the GMC in about 6 months, sans a few times to scope it out.Yes. I need the PM system, and I do enjoy browsing some of the non-q&a forums.
Heh, I check the GMC every now and then to see if I have PMs, which I never do. My school internet security is often pointless. If I go onto a site like the GMC at school, it'll say "message boards and clubs are blocked", but then if you click the button labelled "continue", you can go onto the GMC. Kinda pointless.
I rarely go on the GMC, if ever.
Consider yourself lucky, marbs. Our school network administrator really knows her stuff. There is a hardware filter we have to connect to by proxy, and connections are white listed, so I can't use Firefox or Brutus to help me get around the filter. Right-click in any Explorer window is disabled, as well as almost all keyboard shortcuts. Run and the File menu are also gone.
I like the GMC because I like helping newcomers and participating in community discussions and projects.Man, do you really need that bad to visit a website while in school? That's simply stupid, internet freak.
I almost never visit the gmc =0
I bypass the blocks at school by using the admin account my friend set up. >_> I think that's legal?
There are a few websites you can go to. I can't go to them now though because my school got a better filter.
http://greenrabbit.org/http://cacheless.org/All you need are these. There are a few more sites listed at the top of the pages. So, when your school blocks one of them, use the next. This should last you for a while.
