SPECTRE
This is my latest little project. It should be finished fairly soon, and is a turn based RPG that can be played by one or two players (via internet). It's extremely oldschool, with grid based movement small static sprites and cool music. You get to level up your character's health and power by gaining experience points from killing enemies. And when you're not killing slimy creatures, you're solving various puzzles in an adventurous and mysterious manner. The story revolves around a space patrol officer who receives an old distress signal from a planet called "Spectre". When he arrives at the space colony on Spectre, the place seems completely deserted… Except for the local wildlife which seems unusually vicious. Your mission is to find out the origin of the distress signal, and what has happened to the people that used to live here. Here's a few screens that you can look at while I keep working on the game:The Title ScreenThe Patrol ShipA Battle in ActionAbout a release date… Well, as usual; don't hold your breath. It'll be done when it's done. I've got about 50% of the game done already, so it shouldn't take too long, though ;)
That game looks insanely awesome. I don't like the HUD, though. It looks too similar to the one from 1945.
wow sweet!
I like the graphics, but I agree with poll boy about the HUDReminds me of my NES.
Reminds me of my ZZT.
YAY! RETRO! You know what, you should make an option to play sounds throught PC speaker, maybe as an unlockable feature? I'd love that.
I'll definitely be downloading that when you're done. It reminds me somewhat of a game on my old Apple II GS (something about dungeons, and there were bats and you could change the background color).
reminds me of nethack :D
Reminds me of…err….I've played few old games.
Thanks for the positiv feedback, y'all. It's indeed quite a retro experience. I don't think I'll go with PC Speaker sounds, though… It'd be too much of a bitch to learn how to do (plus you would have to program the tunes that the game plays right?). The music I've selected for the game is really good, though. Retro, and perfect for a computer game.
ZZT is probably the most accurate graphical comparison… Although there is some animation at times :PNow I shall focus on finishing this baby!I WIN.
