my introduction

Posted by death on Sept. 2, 2010, 9:51 p.m.

at first i wasn't going to do this whole blog thing until i noticed everybody is doing it (yeah following the crowd, what ever…) so with 66 hits on my page i mine as well say something.

where to start?

i guess i could explain my history with Game Maker… not much. i started with GM6 before YYG was up, didn't really get into the GMC at the time, not until 2009 oddly enough. When YYG was up i thought it was a great idea, i became a member the minute the site went up (i'm very active there even now)

this means i have about 4 years or so of GM experience. though there were many times i wouldn't use it for months. i'm 100% involve with GM as of 2009, on it daily/weekly working on so many projects.

i have a website i written in HTML mostly, here at:

http://DZgames.99k.org/

you can take a look at all the blog updates there and all the games i have up. around 10 or so by now, i'm not counting.

and now to present a little something that i'm working on currently. it's an online battle game in Under60seconds style. here's a screenshot showing it's beautiful lighting and particle system ^^

(this is actually an older screenshot but that's all you get for now)

How did you find this site?

umm good question… i can't remember lol. i think Mega told me about it so i checked it out and became a member just for the sake of it. there are a few things i like about the site actually, mainly the front page showing newly uploaded games instead of featured games. it's great for getting plays on all the games.

Yes so that the same game doesn't stay up for several years in a row >_>

i didn't ask what criticism is so why tell me?
Because clearly there's something about the definition you don't get. You like feedback but you have to ask for criticism in order to accept it. Instead of trying to argue, show us that you know what it means, so I won't make the mistake of defining it to you in the future.

Suggestions also don't have to be apparent. Everyone offered a suggestion even with their "negativity." "Squares suck" or anything like that means "try a different character sprite." When I mentioned the background to you, that was as clear a suggestion as it gets. It's better hearing it from me than it is from some of the more blunt users.

I'm not trying to argue, rather, find out which page we're both on. No need to get defensive.

Yo, death21. We're, primarily, a community here. Part of being a community is accepting that others are different - this isn't a forum, and as such there are no strict "on topic" rules. If people talk about shit you don't like in your blog comments, don't reply to it. This is a pretty easy going site, but first impressions count, and they count hard.

I'm sorry if we seem like ass-hats but we really do want to see your game/website improve/succeed. About the website, you should really make the background color darker. I usually keep the brightness of my screen to a minimum (around 40%) and the background still bugs me.

On that note, your userpage CSS is badass.

lol okay i'll try to change the background whenever i can. as for the square characters, they'll be staying as the game is a follow up of my previous game. i know, i don't like them that much either but i'm not great with graphics and i focus more on gameplay so hopefully people can get over it.
