Now that I've got your attention, I was thinking that the minecraft map is getting really big and expansive. It's cool to have a ton of completed stuff on a server, but the server grows so fast that it's hard to keep up, and when something is done, we kind of move on and abandon whatever we were working on before.
What do you guys think of restarting the map every month? Basically on the first of each months, we'd zip up the current map, make it available in an archive for anyone to download and play in single player (or for us to go back to later), and then start fresh with a new map. It's just an idea, and I know a lot of people have invested a lot of time into their stuff, so I don't know if anyone would want to restart, but it's a thought. What do you guys think of it?Edit: Kabob brought up a cool idea of just moving the spawn point, instead of creating a whole new map. This would allow people to warp back to the old spawn to look at/work on their projects, while encouraging others to start fresh in the new area.
Also, I recorded a lot of footage around the current map, so maybe ill compile a video of the old one.
And about the powers, I dont think anyone should have item powers except admins, OP's should have tp powers, and home should be rid of, and instead have a rail system to each town. Also, arenas, lava pits for 1 on 1 matches, and places to fight through mobs to get to other places could be made. As well as mining areas. Then only OP's and mods can go/bring people to the old areas.Thats my thoughts.I say go for it. As long as the old maps are available to download.
haha, ideas are getting complicated.
How about this: we keep the map exactly as it is, and forget the idea of starting over. However, let's set a warp point a few thousand blocks in whatever direction, and have a sign at spawn saying "to visit the new area, type /warp new" it'll keep things simple, and won't shake up the server too much.or, even better…the reason I wanted to restart the server, was because I was lost with where everything is. There is nothing uniform about anything near spawn, and it is very confusing. We should start a project to:- Better organize the area around the spawn to make things look more uniform- Make path ways far more clear in where they lead to, and HOW FAR the path goes. I still have no idea if melton is closer than epicity. Simply having a sign at the beginning of each path gives a new player a sense of what is on the map, and how far it is.- Make an information building at spawn, describing each city, home, and mine.- Make an information building in each town to describe what's in the town, roughly how big it is, and who the citizens are.- Set out some guidlines/directions for new comers, to describe where they should go and where they can build. I started randomly digging as close to spawn as I could, because I had no idea if I was walking towards a town, and/or if it was deserted.Basically, rather than restart the map, let's revamp it a little, and give it more structure, and make it clearer what is on the map, and where it is.Additionally, I'm not a fan of fighting mobs - I like digging. I also really like the idea of RPing. And I also dislike people /iteming. Rather than forcing people to conform to the rules (like Kabob's idea of setting limits of where you can tp, etc), I think we should let people obey the rules on their own. They can /item if they want, but that's no fun. I think it would be cool to play with a currency (either with a plugin, or trade diamonds/gold/etc), and have a mayor of a town, and citizens in the town, and contractors outside the town, etc. Towns people work for the good of the town - expanding it and such - and the contractors can help expand the town, or they can be hired to connect two towns with a tunnel. Or citizens can be tasked with collecting stone to build walls, or stone can be bought from a contractor or a store (like rune). Someone could be tasked with making and maintaining a forest, and keep filling up the town's chests with wood.Maybe each town could go out and build giant monuments outside of towns, and put signs around the monument, to show it was built in the name of melton, or whatever.I'd also love it if towns could attack each other - griefing and stuff, but that's not very fair. Maybe towns could use dynamite - but no /iteming dynamite - you actually have to build the dynamite yourself, and use that in enemy towns.Towns could attack citizens of other towns though. pvp would be fine.I don't know, we could elaborate on RP stuff. But I don't think the current map has gone stale, and if we want a new area, we just keep spawn where it is, and have users voluntarily /warp to the new area. Personally, I'd rather start a project to clean spawn up, and make everything clear as to where things are.I think what we will end up deciding on is to "split the map". So that people may not teleport or bring items between both areas. One area will be the creation area, while the other will be the survival area. This allows both people who like survivial more, and people who like building more, to have fun with whichever they chose while they play.
But I do agree with your restructuring idea, as it is not really obvious of where to go.On the attacking idea, that could go to the survival area where people can build, destroy, and defend.Splitting the map would also be like a "new map" to those who wanted it.I agree with Alert.
PvP doesn't seem fair, I could get some friends to stockpile tnt and then completely level their town over night, and not tell them.
I think it'd be easy if we made page with all that information, maybe even maps of each city, and underground maps. Once craftbook is up we'll at least have easy travel to most places. Once I finish my tunnel to Obsidia, I'll work on improving the rest of Underspawn, and maybe some surface roads. Currency also seems nice, though I think it'd have to be one or the other- Currency, or /item-ing, which I think should exclude diamonds and other rare things.I like the job idea. I'm already a heavy supplier for Rune, so I wouldn't be able to provide much for Melton other than Six Flags.Rune is currently very well stocked with just about everything but ores and ingots. I'm working on filling up the wood and coal supplies by means of "Quests" and "Tasks / Jobs". Take a look at the old Rune Vault for details!
So, is this fad still going strong? …Because I'm looking for something to spend my money on. And shit, I've been saying that for two months now. Someone inspire me.
Buy it while its still on sale =p
