64Digits Development Hell

The hell of fame, if you will.

Today I will be talking about announced 64Digits games that were talked about frequently, aren't canceled, and haven't had many outward signs of progress (demos, screens).

The following are some notable games, with some background history:

REZ 2 by Clay/REZ:
Rez and the Forgotten was the first game in the rez series, being recieved very well despite some lack of polish due to its great amount of atmosphere and foreboding plot. Rez was quick to announce a sequel, and work was done to add some new elements to the old Rez game and continue the storyline from where it left off. It's been a while, and there is no REZ 2, but Rez did remake RATF with a new storyline. The old REZ 2 can be said to be canceled, but with a new REZ 2 announced, it can be argued that it is one long put off game.

Ciribot by ludamad: The current ciribot platform game had much problems through out development. The very first ciribot platform game was made with very crude graphics, but had the essentials of the current game. It had block making, but not much more gameplay elements. That version was lost in a format. The game was started again, similarly. The graphics were near identical, and so was the gameplay. The graphics were improved with the help of a pixeler named FallingNinja, and the current graphics were made. The game was in development for a long time, when, yet again, the file was lost in a format. Fast forward to a long time after, Ciribot has still not been remade, and though mockups have been shown of new graphics, such a thing is not in my current plans. I have the editable again thanks to efforts by JoshDreamland, but I will not be finishing the old game. This game is put on hold as I develop a game of a different genre related to Ciribot.

PLatformed by kenon: Ah PLatformed, PLatformed was announced around the time Ciribot had its first demo, and has not had a gameplay demo since. The game has changed many many times since its initial engine demo, and the progress on the game has just barely started according to kenon. Kenon claims he has no intentions to cancel the game, and plans to make two sequels.

Teleka by Obelisk Originally entitled Dodgebubble, Teleka, which originally starred Zane's BUBZ (then Bubz) exclusively, has had more planning than programming. Much concept art show the shift from dodgebubble to the multi-character complex render-based Teleka. The game's current artistic style uses 3D renders and has started basic programming. The game also plans to have numerous sequels. Obelisk has stated that he currently feels like "It's not going to be a good game", stating that the project is difficult to work with.

TDK by twisterghost Elicti was a game that twisterghost was working on for a great while. It was a lackluster RPG, and finally twisterghost caved in to demands to restart the project. The game currently has ambitious online plans, but production on the game has been really slow. Still having graphics that, in my opinion, are sub-par compared to the average popular GM game. The game is currently said to be delayed until the release of JoshDreamland's 'Enigma', an alternative game development program.

BBQ5 by twisterghost The LOLOMGWTFBBQ series was a series of games made as quick showcases of 64Digits inside jokes and members. The games were completed in relatively short times, both in terms of production and how long the user spent to play them. Part of their popularity was the relevance to the 64Digits community and the ability to gain badges. The first 4 games were made very quickly, but for little good reason the 5th is breaking the series trend of quick releases and has been promised for some time.

Though this isn't a game, you need to have ENIGMA. J@D is making some real progress on that.

Also stafftitleswearlol.

We can fucking swear retro.

Retro, ENIGMA hasn't been in a state of no development or even in development long enough to be on this list

Personally I like programming a game while planning it out, and it seems that method finishes them

BBQ series was messed up with its inclusion of members.

90% of them appeared that appeared in one game appeared in more games, even though some were inactive.

It ain't easy being an indie and getting all your ideas through.

Assuming PLatformed's release date is inifinity, the first sequel has to be released beyond infinity, or should I say negative infinity. Therefore Platformed 2 always existed. Platformed 3 however, is just a black hole.

You forgot to put V3 up there, seeing as now work on it is perhaps limited to about 2 people.
