I heard somewhere that OK originated from the first world war, where a tally of those killed was written on a board. A day when no one was killed was shortened to "0K," meaning "zero killed." Since it was usually read as, "oh-kay," it was soon being used this way to describe a situation as being alright. "Everything's OK."
Of course, this is just one of about a dozen explainations I've read or heard. I like this one the best :DZipper: No. I forget the real reason but that's way off.
