I want to keep an open communication between myself and all of you for the duration of the initial setup and execution of the 64Digits Spring Competition. I'm going to be using this as a sort of training grounds for the full on GAME JAM I'm going to be hosting later this year, OHJAM (which is a separate entity from this competition).Let me know if you have anything to add or have any questions on anything!I respond better to facebook or twitter messages.IF YOU NEED TO CONTACT ME ABOUT SWITCHING/JOINING/LEAVING TEAMS, SEND ME A MESSAGE ON HERE OR AN EMAIL
This is neat. You're trying to create a gigantic competition? Twitch.tv might help. I am not sure. At the very least, you could have live streams of the competition.
This sounds like a great idea! I think a more professional outlook of these competitions will definitely help bring in new people, but I hope that it remains at least slightly informal, with extensions and things like that on the table. You might want to look into getting sponsored by Google and IBM, they seem to support these sort of events :). Will this competition have a theme and/or a subtheme? I wouldn't mind to have a theme that is based around a gameplay style instead, I haven't seen this before, I think it could be interesting and will make the games easier to compare instead of trying to judge apples against oranges against cars :D.
If I can figure it out, it would be cool to have a list of 64Fools' Twitch streams on the website so that we can promote who is currently streaming.
Also, http://www.hitbox.tv/ could be a decent alternative if twitchplayspokemon is still breaking Twitch chat. Also, I added those two as potential sponsors. I'll announce more concrete details at the beginning of next month. While I want to be open about stuff, I also want everything I show you guys to be well thought out, and pretty looking, to avoid confusion.Sorry for the double post, but I wanted to let everyone know this is the official information topic now. Steven, or another mod, will sticky this to the front page.
This is quite an undertaking you have here, and while I promised myself I wouldn't enter any more competitions here, April is actually a combination of the worst month and the best month. If this kicks off well, I'll end my hiatus and probably use something slightly more professional – perhaps GMS or Unity, depending on sponsors.
I have a bunch of homework to do this afternoon, but I'm hoping to pound out half of the potential sponsor list tonight. Again, let me know if you guys think of some groups/companies/websites that I didn't think of yet.
I updated the topic with the dates, times, rules, and more. I'll probably keep adding and modifying it over the course of the next few days, and I'll definitely keep updating the status of sponsorship.
I think this might constitute a double post:
Unity has been gracious enough to offer a Unity Pro license as a prize and Unity Pro trials to everyone entering the competition for THE DURATION OF THE COMPETITION. You better start training up on Unity, everybody.Note: The keys will be limited - I'll set the bar higher than the expected turnout, but I can't guarantee anything if this event magically blows up to unexpected proportions.Very nice. Interest definitely piqued :P
you're making me SEVERELY TEMPTED to enter this thing despite already having negative time for it arrrrrrrrrrrgh
(seriously though this is sounding like it's gonna be cool)
