lighting engine
well, i rewrote it, and this time all that is needed to make an object a lightsource is a single script.what's cool now is that you can set the resolution of the shadows, which can greatly increase the speed if you don't need 1:1 resolution shadows.(same scene, 20 lights)1x here [258 fps]0.5x here [450 fps]0.25x here [590 fps]oh, and i don't think i showed you guys what the lighting engine looks like in first person.dungeon crawler [old lighting system, much slower] dungeon crawler 2 ancient ancient 23d collision enginethere's not really much to show, and it's quite slow as i'm only using gm code.physicsi may end up just scrapping this and using a dll like gmnewton, or gmogre.ancient templebeen working on this a lot recently, as i've currently got MisfitChris doing my music!currently, we're just finishing up the sprites, (as you can see the player sprite is still 16x, our artist is working on a 32x version)we've also got someone working on concept art for the game, so expect to see some of that soon!8bitworldit's a procedural rpg we've been working on for about the past 3 months, it's scheduled for release quite soon, as all we've got left are a few bugs to work out.here, have some screenshots.and that's all, just wanted to update you guys.
Awesome. I don't know what else to say. :D
cool, hope they're fun! stat-building RPGs and collectible/exploration types are the only ones i really go for anymore. :P
@GoD & Juurian, heh, if i end up finding a lowpoly 3d modeler, then ancient will look even awesome saucier!
@hel, they are quite fun, mainly because, they're our favorite types to make and play too!Love this stuff.
What's up with the transparency in the first screenshot of 8bit world, though?Clouds, obviously.
*facepalm*
Makes sense.@cesque, hehe, yeah they're clouds, they look a lot more like them in motion!
Epic. Absolutely epic.
This makes me want to do something awesome… I just have to figure out what first.@mega, thanks, glad i could inspire you!
my method for coming up with ideas is quite simple; find something i like, and give it a twist.usually, it turns out like garbage, but every so often, something great comes from it!ooh! i just found a low poly artist for ancient, so expect many graphical improvements!you can see his portfolio here.
