Do you like rewards for playing?

Do you like unlocking upgrades or unlockables during a games campaign, or do you like a straight forward campaign?

Even though I have close to 30 achievements already(plus more on the way), unlockable side missions after the game's campaign is complete, and unlockable ranks and characters in the game's multiplayer, I feel as if the game needs more to unlock.

When I was first creating it, I made it possible to buy and upgrade weapons during the campaign, but unfortunately I lost all this work multiple times(about 5 or 6 times) due to my computer failing horribly, so I had to redo a couple of months of work at a time.

I didn't know how to back up work back then, I was only like 11, Dat shit ain't funny. >:(

So all I have now is Online highscores for the game's campaign and Survival mode, and the achievements and shits.

:(

So should I try to recode it so you can unlock and buy weapons, and all that kind of delicious shits?

What would you love to unlock in a game?

well creativity is nice, i've unlocked the same flamethrower/submachine gun/etc in so many games now that they've lost their novelty. but anything that adds to the game, go for it.

Gah, I would love to have my game's achievements linked to 64D to earn you badges somehow.

I think I've mentioned this idea before somewhere…

I'm trying to find out something that would keep players playing and playing for months or possibly even years, I've spent close to 6 years making this shit, and I don't want this to be something that dies out in a few months. :'(

I don't think an indie game as small time as mine could do it. :(

Achievements are usually enough.

badges are cheating, JakeX is still a whore for starting that shit. i mean creative as in actually contributing to the gameplay, if you want people coming back for months it has to be fun, period. we all like to dress up other parts of our games and dance around this simple notion because it's hard.

But badges would tempt badge whores to play mah gaem.

God knows everyone is secretly a badge whore deep down inside.

People join 64Digits just to get those baddass badges. :P

A very good way to keep the player-base continually playing a game is to update it regularly with new features like new weapons, levels, whatever. It doesn't even need to be big updates, just something new (new hats worked for tf2, maybe you can try that). You might even get new players to start playing.

Unlockables are also good ways to give people incentive to keep playing a game. However, I personally hate achievements which have no effect in the game itself (i.e. achievements that don't reward anything except the achievement itself).

I agree with everything you've just said.

I've actually tested out using an updater a few times, but I removed it seeing as it would be pointless since the game isn't online multiplayer… Yet.

Which also leads me to another problem, I still got to make the goddamn game's online multiplayer. >:(

I am sure I'll find a way in a couple of months.

I would have some XP events and shit, but I just got to make the game online first.

Rambo pretty much nailed it. Achievements with no game effect would be nice, but would be incentive to re-play a game.

But really the gameplay is most important, then those things come after to reinforce it. You probably got that sorted out already, but ive seen games that have all this stuff added in, which is nice, but I never played the games again…

But yes, all that online functionality does take a shitload of time. I should know, ive been adding new features for the past year or so.

Funny thing is that I've attempted doing everything he has said before, time to re-implement some features.
