Everybody knows how much I love harping on about competitions…
… so it seems only right that I mention that the biggest 48hr/72hr game jam on the internet is starting on Friday/Saturday.I personally will be taking part again and I was curious if anybody else was going to.This time I think I'll be tackling the more leniant 72hr game jam, rather than the 48hr competition, because I have to go on a somewhat inconvienient ferry trip on the Sunday. It also means I can work in a team, so if anybody wants to, let me know. There's also a rather interesting $1,250 competition hosted on a different site* which is running alongside 'Dare. Although it appears you'll have to get a US citizen to enter for you.So yes. Discuss, don't discuss, or if your name is colseed, +1 everything you see.*Warning: community may contain arseholes
Ludum Dare games can be made in anything for any platform, but that $1250 competition on Kongregate requires to use flash, html5, java, unity, or silverlight because you have to run it in-browser and implement their API after the competition.
Your best bet might be to use a HTML5 version of Game Maker. What's the theme? I can always find a lot of interesting facts posted about those competitions except what the theme is.
They don't announce the theme until it starts. It's usually something really shit and uninteresting though, because it's down to a public vote.
Some of the most popular themes atm:-Creation and destruction-Castles-Abondoned-SurviveIn other words the worst choices out of the list. Also the last three Ludum Dare themes were "Tiny World", "Alone" and "Escape". I could go on at great length as to why these are all terrible themes.Oh.
Castles sounds interesting, the rest, not so much. "Abandoned" would be interesting if it didn't also happen to be a secondary theme in all indie games by default.Yeah, I remember you going to great length about "Tiny World" being a horrible theme :PI suppose castles isn't so bad, but I dread to think how many castle defence games there would be.
Ludum Dare!
Me and My friend decided to entering this 4 months ago after I enter it for the first time, can't wait for the weekend! That's it, Colseed for Member of The Year.
I will be attempting this but I will likely just use the weekend as an excuse to make a completely unrelated prototype.
I'm going to do this.
And by do, I mean, do what the majority of people do in this competition; just use it as an excuse to make a neat little game without even imagining I can win. I probably won't even submit it, although I'll post the result here. So what time does it actually start? Also, fuck Kongregate.Notgonnajoin
