Reviving the old RPG project that I started in January. The above is what I have so far. Over the next few days I'll be adding the beginning of the storyline.

The first demo will consist of about 30 minutes of gameplay and will introduce the plot and give users a chance to learn the controls and feel for the battle system.

A few things that you'll be expecting in the battle system is:

-Real time enemy spawn. No random stuff. You'll see the enemies walking around and will have a chance to chase them or run away.

-Turn base battles. Final Fantasy style.

-Leveling up system

Not much for you to see at the moment, just thought I'd introduce the project and let the few people who were in my RPG conversation the other day know that it is in fact being worked on.

I'd also like to let anyone whose making an RPG know that I'm all for tips and ideas. Need someone to test yours? Give me a shout. I'd appreciate feedback as well. Honestly, I doubt any of our RPG's are going commercial and they'll turn out a whole lot better if we discussed them with each other. RPG's aren't the best games built with Game Maker at the moment. I'd like to make a decent one, for myself and for the genres reputation.

I don't know how far you are in the game's story, but I would suggest not setting the game in medieval times. It's over-used, and frankly I try to avoid those type of games.

I'm doing it regardless because that's what I like. I might make changes to add some originality but I want it to take place in the medieval times.

All time settings are overused lol. You've only got 4 main choices, pre-historic, medieval, modernish, future. Out of those, medieval and future make the most sense for rpg.

When I think of an RPG, I think of a Medieval Fantasy. I love those type of games. So, that's what I'll be making in this RPG.

Earthbound pulled it off quite well. Though it's sci-fi, it's not really in a futuristic setting if only aliens have cool stuff.

Medieval fantasy games are waaaay overdone, but I love the genre to death. Just try to avoid cliches like having the protagonist be some ordinary farm kid to begin with, and he finds out he's the only one who can save the world from some dragon.

Even pull a World of Warcraft, making item drops sensible, not getting money from a beetle.

Also, a turn-based battle system is difficult to do in GM, and it has the potential to be boring, tedious, and yet relaxing. Make sure you have some perks to make up for it, or a good reason as to why you're going turn-based.

Mainly doing turn based because I have a party system and want users to be able to control multiple characters in a battle and be able to fight multiple monsters in a single battle.

Looks and sounds cool.

I have nothing against Medieval except for the cliches, but they can be avoided and made into exceptionally fun games.

*cough* Demon's Souls *cough*

Looks like someone has a gripe with Chrono Trigger. ;)

Looks decent so far, when can we expect a demo?

Great example. Earthbound is one of the most underrated RPGs.
