Without any delay, here's the public beta:

PLEASE READ THE GODDAMN CONTROLS FIRST, then download.

I WILL UPLOAD A BETTER VERSION eventually IN A BIT EVENTUALLY.

I didn't have enough time to fix how hideous my lobbies are, but who gives a shit, it gets the job done, I will fix them soon though.

Also, the mode Battlegrounds is rather new, I just made it two days ago, so it's not perfect yet.

Please, no one whine about how my hideous the graphics are, I know this already, I will fix them after I finish the game.

But I still stand by my limited view stance. I really dislike it.
So you want a view that doesn't obey the room's boundaries?

Like one that can look past the outside of the room?

Also, I'll make the view bigger, I guess.
You could also make it so that the camera follows the midpoint between the player and the cursor.

…if that makes any sense…I be typin this kinda fast :/

JID 13 years, 6 months ago

I already have it like that when you hold the sniper rifle.

Cesque 13 years, 6 months ago

Alright, more comments after actually playing it for a longer while.

1. First of all, you used the "GM-style" camera, where the view isn't always centred on the player (as it should be in a top-down game), but only gets pushed if the player gets close enough to the edge. This is horrible, especially since the game's view is already limited, as it basically means you see what's behind you rather than in front of you.

2. You should tweak the enemy AI to simulate limited sight, i.e. make them not shoot you from 2 screens away. I think I also saw some glitches where they got stuck or refused to shoot me.

3. The alien handgun is a bitch to use and a bitch to fight against. When you get your hands on it, it needs you to do some serious button-mashing, while enemies fire at maximum possible speed, making their basic weapon the most deadly one. Unfair :<

4. The weapon switching system bamboozled me. You can carry two weapons at the time, I assume, but I was never actually able to switch a weapon I wanted to get rid of for a weapon I wanted. It always replaced whatever weapon I was carrying. I only managed to switch between the assault rifle and the gun that you get at startup, but that's it. It's particularly annoying when you end up carrying nothing but grenades…

5. …which I don't like either. They just act weird, I think you should replace them with sticky bombs or some throwable charges that attach to walls, since they don't really bounce anyway.

6. It's confusing that the weapon and the ammo count are in different parts of the screen. Maybe just display the weapon under your ammo (and reduce the size of the sprite)?

7. I got the cursor-disappears bug once during normal gameplay, too, but since you already fixed that… :)

8. In the options, changing resolution should just display a list of available resolutions, not "click and pray that the next one will be the one you want"… probably the same for other options, too.

9. Let the free camera move vertically and horizontally at the same time if the player presses both, say, Up and Left keys.

And finally, some positive feedback and other stuff ;)

10. The selection of weapons in general is pretty cool, at least some of them (I probably didn't see too many alien ones). I loved the AK-something and the flamethrower. In general, different weapons encourage different gameplay style, which is good.

10. The levels are well designed and no two levels feel the same. I loved the Bridge in particular (THAT NOISE), but all of them were pretty cool and didn't feel like just random mazes of copy-pasted elements.

11. Overall(y), I think the game's engine would be perfect for survival-style gameplay, as it really encourages running for cover while avoiding enemy fire and trying to guess where the bastards are to shoot them back. Take that into account when designing the campaign :)

12. Finally, I'm confused. Is this going to be a proper multiplayer game or what? (I admit not having read every single bit of info you posted about it so far ;_;)

Edit: Goddammit, someone fix that text space stretch.

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF IT'S 70 MEBABYTES BIG?

HORY SHET.

Okay, ignore my antics - I'll edit this post while I play, so that, you know, how fail I'm doing and such :P

*edit*

Okay, so I got one kill and one death - All because my human team mates decided to shoot at the walls instead of the aliens.

:(

Also, I noticed that the cursor shrunk and expanded, I didn't understand why - And I ran out of ammo far too quickly.

Weapon switching was okay though, so at least I could switch to my secondary.

And the shield was confusing.

How does it work? Does it disapear when you start shooting from behind it?

So, with the alien handgun, and alien assault rifle, the faster you shoot, the less accurate you are, so when you are at far range, just tap the button slowly to get maximum accuracy, but when an enemy is close, tap dat shit as fast as you can to dispose of your enemy quickly. I agree, the AI has incredibly unreal accuracy, I will fix that as soon as I make the AI able to pick up weapons.

Yes, you are only able to carry two weapons at a time, and you can only trade a weapon with the one you are carrying, so what you're saying is that you want the game to automatically switch the weapons for you?

Like if you are carrying your first weapon and you switch your gun and you want the game to automatically switch your second weapon?

I was thinking about adding C4's to the game, or maybe when you melee a wall when you have your nades out they will be planted onto the wall like mines.

Yeah, I did fix it, but I didn't upload it yet…

I am going to make some sexy menue's, don't worry.

It does do that, it moves in all 8 directions…. >_>

I actually got the siren sound from the Silent Hill movie. :P

The game's campaign with require a lot of teamwork(when you're with your squad), but when you're alone, your tactics change more, it's more about just doing whatever you can to survive, it's plenty of times where I try to just hide in bushes. :p

Also, I actually do have a survival mode, but I'd rather not reveal it yet, I feel as if it's not where I want it to be right now.

I will make it online multiplayer, I'm just figuring out what balances I want to have in the game's modes first(which you guys have already told me to do).

@RAMBOFOX:

The closer the cursor is to the player, the smaller it gets.

Quote:
And I ran out of ammo far too quickly.
You can pick up weapons you know, I hope you didn't just camp for 10 minutes with one weapon and try to get a kill, you've got to use teamwork. :p

How does it work? Does it disapear when you start shooting from behind it?

The shield disappears over time, when you are shot at after a certain amount of shots and it depends on which weapon an enemy shoots you with.

Like when the AI shoots at you with heavy weapons like turrets, or when they shoot at you with a close ranged gun, it'll automatically destroy your shield. I did this so people don't whore the shield and camp behind it all the time.

DAMN, DAT SHIT WAS A BITCH TO WRITE

Majatek 13 years, 6 months ago

Okay, that's nice :)

I'll play more of it when I get the hang of it later on - For now, I want to work on my TDS :P

Oh yeah, and I noticed that you used a Doom texture that I was JUST about to use in my TDS.

FFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUU

JID 13 years, 6 months ago

Oh, I did?

I actually don't know where I got my stolen backgrounds from. :V

JID 13 years, 6 months ago

Maybe I should've added an in-depth tutorial to the beta, everyone who's posted seems to have struggled to learn how to play it. :<

Majatek 13 years, 6 months ago

I'm only a newbie after all. :P

Create a tutorial level with some army general yelling or something. Perhaps you could voice it =D

"ALRIGHT NOOBLET, THIS GUN, IS YOUR ONLY HOPE OF PROTECTING YOUR SORRY ASS IN THE HEAT OF BATTLE - YOU WILL BE SHOT AT, AGAIN AND AGAIN, UNTIL YOU'RE PRACTICALLY SWISS CHEESE, AND UNLESS YOU WANT THAT HAPPENING, YOU GOT TO AIM.

THIS IS HOW YOU AIM!"

Etc :3
