I want to keep an open communication between myself and all of you for the duration of the initial setup and execution of the 64Digits Spring Competition. I'm going to be using this as a sort of training grounds for the full on GAME JAM I'm going to be hosting later this year, OHJAM (which is a separate entity from this competition).Let me know if you have anything to add or have any questions on anything!I respond better to facebook or twitter messages.IF YOU NEED TO CONTACT ME ABOUT SWITCHING/JOINING/LEAVING TEAMS, SEND ME A MESSAGE ON HERE OR AN EMAIL
I'm somewhat tempted to do something evil involving software engines and HTML5.
So I've been doing some preliminary testing:Plaid/Test Pattern Simulator 2014Managed to implement a fast Bresenham function in JS, and I'm happy with the speed. That's a 320x240 'viewport', scaled up to 640x480, and running at 60FPS.Mega: That thing is neat. Does it ever finish?
Acid: You need to fix the site.."If you cannot use a prize, or just dont want it, you can forfeit it adjacently. (To the"to the what? No, it carries on forever.
I already sent out the competition information to a ton of people and it would just be confusing to change it. Plus, the entire month of April is a fair gauge for time. And to be honest, if people are seriously going to enter the competition, they have an ENTIRE MONTH, so a week shouldn't make or break their entry. As I said before, awesome games come out of 24 and 48 hour game jams - a month is plenty time.
And gog.com is offically a sponsor - check the page for the update.Yeah, Cyrus has a good point. If we give more time for people to work on the game, we are more likely to actually make something. Just from normal experience, having to stop and take breaks every day, really makes it hard to work on. If I have it right in front of me for 6+ hours, I can really get a lot done, and not forget what I'm doing. Of course, that's until I just get stuck, which happens from time to time.
Everyone has Spring Break at a different time - the dates will stand as they are.
A month is a good length of time.Cyrus has a good point. However, the sponsors have already agreed, and it might cause problems if we change the date.
Personally, I don't think it matters when we start. Some of us are working anyway, and have no such thing as a Spring Break. What about them? For myself, I'll just put in as much effort as I can whenever I can. A month is a generous amount of time, and all of us have pulled off great things in far shorter spaces of time.
What do you guys think about me releasing exactly what games each prize tier will get? The rep from GOG.com has given me the keys and told me I could release what games are available, but he think's it might be cooler to maybe relabel them as Mystery Bundles.
I like both ways, so I'm conflicted. On one hand, we have the Mystery $100 game bundle that's interesting but on the other hand I could announce the games and try to promote based on that.Let me know what you think!I've personally been very interested in what the actual games are, since it'd be very motivating to work towards something I really want, instead of something that I might already have :P
