Thanks to RC for pointing this out to me.

YoYo Games has decided to allow GM:S Free users to upgrade to Standard for… free.

To do this, install that standalone version of GM:S Free (The Steam version will not work), then choose the Beta Update channel and let it update. …

Progress Log, November 2013

Posted by Astryl on Nov. 17, 2013, 6:49 a.m.

Written in the dead of night into a txt file, and copy-pasted here for your viewing displeasure.

Decided to write a blog about my progress, and my planned progress.

Right now, I'm doing something really unusual for me: Focusing on one project.

That's not to say that I'm not working …

Projects 2013/14

Posted by Astryl on Nov. 11, 2013, 4:42 a.m.

I just finished organizing my projects folder, and I decided I'd give everybody a little rundown of what I'm working on for the remainder of this year and into next year.

A couple of these projects I've never mentioned before, or are still in the design/planning/framework phase, and I'll label …

Programming for the NES

Copy-pasted from a hidden fortress deep under the sea

The NES is one of my favorite consoles; I grew up with it, and still have two clones and a boatload of cartridges sitting around on my shelves.

Of course, now that I have knowledge of the arcane and whatnot, I …

Lightbound progress video

Posted by Astryl on Sept. 28, 2013, 5:36 a.m.

I suddenly regained all motivation to work on my game, specifically on Lightbound, and have made what I feel is major progress.

This engine is my longest running project. I started work on it around March last year, and have been improving it, …

Lights in Lightbound

Posted by Astryl on Sept. 25, 2013, 3:04 a.m.

So, I accidentally spent time on my other competition entry. I'm still undecided as to which one I'm going to finish, so I'm working on both.

As for how I accidentally spent time working on it… I was going to play some Minecraft last night, but I kinda missed the …

So, Valve dropped this today:

http://store.steampowered.com/livingroom/SteamOS/

I'm actually intrigued by the idea; if games are able to run as close to the metal as possible, with specifically designed drivers and interfaces, it could be interesting in terms of performance.

Also, of course, I'm going to see how to go about …

Mega's Comp Progress Blog

Posted by Astryl on Sept. 14, 2013, 3:28 p.m.

Well, I'm down for this, even though I was so sure I wasn't going to be competing this time round.

As usual, in a fit of madness, I came up with two ideas. I have absolutely no inkling as to which one, if either, will be complete by the end …

Mega's 7DFPS stream

Posted by Astryl on Aug. 10, 2013, 5:25 a.m.

Up to somewhere between three and four hours of me typing stuff out, deleting stuff, and derping.

All the videos are here:

I got several major things done today, those being collision detection and player movement.

Exile's collision detection system was a mess of AABB with lots of testing …

Blog.new

It's been nearly a month and a half since I last blogged about anything.

I must be getting lazy… or lazier than usual.

Anyway, have a blog.
